Dermal Fillers – What does the procedure entail and is it painful?2019-02-07T20:07:36+00:00

It can be painful if the procedure is carried out by injector who is not as skilled. Generally, basic dermal filler procedures require no anesthetic as the dermal filler contains local anesthetic. It is simple and straight-forward, involving a few tiny injections directly into the skin, and takes between 15–30 minutes. Make-up can be applied immediately after the procedure and you can go straight back to work. Result can be seen immediately. Optimal results can be maintained over a long period of time through regular repeated treatments. The procedure varies from person to person depending on your requirements and the severity of the wrinkles that are being treated, in addition to the particular dermal filler being administered.

Dermal Fillers – How soon will I see any result and how long does it last?2019-02-07T20:06:11+00:00

Results are seen instantly after the treatment, although this gradually improves over the course of the following 2–4 weeks. Results can last between 9–18 months although optimal results can be maintained over a long period of time through regular repeated treatments. The longevity varies from person to person depending on your requirements and the severity of the wrinkles that are being treated, in addition to the particular dermal filler being administered.

PDO Threads – Will follow-up treatment be necessary?2019-02-07T20:08:12+00:00

Follow-up treatment is rarely necessary. Asymmetry is an unlikely occurrence, which can be corrected by tightening or adding additional threads. If sagging happens prematurely, we’ll insert additional threads to lift and tighten the skin.

PDO Threads – What are the side-effects?2019-02-07T20:08:17+00:00

A thread facelift is a very safe treatment and complications are rare. There is a small risk of swelling, infection, bruising, numbness and slight asymmetry. If you experience any side effects, they should pass within a few days. The side effects will be discussed in full along with risks prior to your procedure.

PDO Threads – When can I wear makeup again?2019-02-07T20:08:23+00:00

In most cases, patients are able to wear moisturizer, sunscreen, and makeup 24 hours after treatment.  If you experience mild bruising, a light concealer can be used to cover this up.

PDO Threads – How do I care for my face after treatment?2019-02-07T20:08:28+00:00

Most patients experience mild bruising and swelling that lasts for 24-72 hours after treatment. Using a cold compress and keeping your head elevated can alleviate this. Recovery time usually takes about a week.

You should also be sure to:

  • Avoid heavy lifting
  • Sleep on your back
  • Avoid rubbing or stretching your face
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 2-3 weeks
PDO Threads – How long do results last?2019-02-07T20:08:34+00:00

This varies depending on the patient’s age at the time of treatment, the quality of the skin, the degree of sagging and the number of threads used. However, results tend to last 2-3 years on average.

PDO Threads – When will I see results?2019-02-07T20:08:39+00:00

You will notice an immediate improvement right after your threading face lift. Optimal results will begin show over 2-6 months as collagen production is stimulated. The threads will dissolve over six months, but the results will be maintained for much longer.

PDO Threads – How long does treatment take?2019-02-07T20:08:45+00:00

Your non-surgical face-lift will take around 45-90 minutes depending on the number of areas being treated.

PDO Threads – What happens during the procedure?2019-02-07T20:08:51+00:00

Local anaesthetic will be applied to the treated area, so you will be comfortable throughout your face thread lift. Your nurse practitioner or injector will then use a cannula or a micro-needle to insert the PDO threads into the deeper layer of your skin. You will be able to return to your usual activities within a couple of days.

PDO Threads – Will I be able to see the threads?2019-02-07T20:09:02+00:00

The threads are clear and cannot be seen once they are inserted under the skin.

PDO Threads – Do the threads need to be removed at a later date?2019-02-07T20:09:08+00:00

No, the threads will gradually dissolve in the body over six months, which actually helps stimulate collagen production. The threads work to return some of the skin’s elasticity, resulting in a reduction in sagging, lines, and wrinkles.

PDO Threads – How does a non surgical facelift work?2019-02-07T20:09:16+00:00

The insertion of the PDO threads triggers the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin, which lasts for at least 2-3 years. The threads themselves dissolve over six months as new fibrous connective tissue grows around them.

PDO Threads – Who’s the best candidate for a thread lift?2019-02-07T20:09:22+00:00

Men and women in their 30s and beyond who have mild to moderate drooping, lines, and wrinkles in the forehead, face and/or neck. We can also perform the treatment as a non- surgical eyelift or on other areas of the body, such as, upper arms, stomach, and thighs.

You must also be in overall good health and have realistic expectations of the treatment. Facelift threading is best suited for those who want to enhance their appearance without resorting to cosmetic surgery.

PDO Threads – What are PDO threads made of?2019-02-07T20:09:28+00:00

Polydioxanone — a clinically proven material already used in surgical sutures. It’s the preferred choice of material for a thread face-lift as it naturally and safely breaks down and dissolves in the body.

Botox – Is there any downtime?2019-02-01T19:38:31+00:00

Not at all. Botox is considered a “lunch-time” procedure. We have many clients who return to work or daily activities right after treatment.

Botox – When will I notice a difference?2019-02-01T19:38:40+00:00

Botox – Is it painful?2019-02-01T19:38:45+00:00

Because the Botox needle is so fine, many people do not experience discomfort. The overall treatment provides pressure in the areas injected, but it is not a painful process. The overall treatment time is usually 10 minutes. At About Face Med Spa, we can apply ice or topical agents to the treated area if needed.

Botox – Do I qualify for Botox?2019-02-01T19:38:48+00:00

People ranging from 18-65 are able to receive Botox. However, it’s best to talk to your medical professional in regards to achieving treatment. Dermal Fillers – How long do dermal fillers last?2019-02-14T22:11:39+00:00

Depending on the dermal filler used, the effects last from six months to 24 months. While there are temporary and permanent dermal fillers, you will want to choose a temporary filler. Be safe folks.  If the permanent filler were placed in the wrong location or in the wrong volume, you would be stuck with the results: permanently. Most dermal fillers are temporary and dissolve in six to 24 months.

There are several types of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers available. Juvederm XC, JuvedermVoluma XC, Beloteroand Restylane are the most popular hyaluronic acid dermal fillers.  Hyaluronic acid is an essential, naturally occurring substance in the body that diminishes as we age. Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers add volume to the face, are shapeable, and look natural.

Dermal Fillers – What are dermal fillers?2019-02-01T19:39:01+00:00

A dermal filler injection is a pharmaceutical grade liquid or gel material injected beneath the skin to get rid of laugh lines and nasolabial folds, fill deep frown lines, erase crow’s feet, raise drooping eyebrows, eliminate deep forehead creases, plump thin lips, correct facial asymmetries, and more.

Nurse practitioners, plastic surgeons, dermatologists, nurses and medical aestheticians provide these services and should be highly trained and certified in the field of cosmetic injectables. In general, Botox is used for the top half of the face, and dermal fillers are used for the bottom half. The main areas where dermal fillers are injected are the nasolabial folds, around the mouth, and marionette lines.

Laser Skin Care Treatments – Do I need to stay out of the sun if I’m getting a laser skin care treatment?2019-02-01T19:39:15+00:00

Lasers and the sun do not mix.  The reason is because the laser’s function is to destroy freckles, brown spots, blood vessels, and tattoo pigment. If the surrounding skin is also tan, the laser mistakes it for “one big brown spot”. However, certain lasers can be adjusted for patients with darker toned skin.  After laser skin care treatments, it is usually recommended to avoid sun exposure for at least 7-10 days.  This will reduce the chance of unwanted side effects.

Laser Skin Care Treatments – How many laser treatments does it take to resolve a skin care concern?2019-02-01T19:39:20+00:00

Certain laser skin care treatments can be done in one appointment, but most require more than one visit to achieve your desired results. For example, with Viva skin resurfacing, you will need to make an additional 2-3 appointments spaced out 4-6 weeks apart to achieve optimal results. In order for the laser to be effective, you should follow your laser technician’s or Nurse Practitioner’s instructions for the length of time between your treatments.

Laser Skin Care Treatments – Can you be too young or old for lasers?2019-02-01T19:39:23+00:00

There are young people who have rosacea, acne, sun spots, and sun damage, too.  And the good news is, these conditions are treatable with laser skin care treatments. Parents can come in for a free consultation at any time.

Laser Skin Care Treatments – How do lasers work to correct skin concerns?2019-02-01T19:39:28+00:00

A laser is a focused beam of light that has specially selected wavelengths that penetrate the skin. When the intense rays of the laser target a problem area on the skin the light is converted into heat and the brown spot, scar, or unwanted hair follicle will be destroyed while sparing the surrounding skin.  About Face Med Spa uses the Venus Versa device. It’s the most versatile multi-applicator platform with three different, highly effective technologies in one workstation to address all of today’s most challenging aesthetic concerns. We have two different IPL photorejuvenation applicators with varying wavelengths to treat a wider range of skin tones.

Microneedling – How Do I Care for My Skin After My Microneedling Treatment?2019-02-01T19:39:39+00:00

You should expect redness and swelling to the treated area. This will subside within a day or two. Tiny pinpoint scabs will appear 24-72 hours post-treatment and may remain 3-7 days following.  The scabs should not be touched, scratched or exfoliated. They will naturally shed off when ready. During the next 48 hours post-treatment, you should avoid working out, hot showers, massages, and sun exposure.

Do not apply makeup to your skin for 24 hours after treatment while your skin is healing. You may start applying emollient creams to alleviate any dry, tight or itchy sensations while your skin is healing. Do not shave for 1-2 days post treatment while your skin is healing. You should apply high-factor sunscreen (at least 30 SPF) and protect the treated area from sunlight. Sun exposure may cause hyperpigmentation.

Microneedling – What Can I Expect During My Microneedling Treatment?2019-02-01T19:39:44+00:00

First your face is thoroughly cleansed with a topical cleanser. Then a topical anesthetic is applied to your skin for 30 minutes before your treatment. When the treatment begins, a serum will be applied to your skin to help the MicroPen gently glide over your skin. The needling itself typically feels like a slight vibration, and almost like a massage with tingling on your skin. During the collagen induction process, the tiny needles in the MicroPen will penetrate through your skin, but will not remove it. Since your skin will only be punctured, it will heal quickly.

Your skin will lightly bleed but only for a few seconds. The mini-punctures will trigger the production of your very own growth factors that eventually result in collagen production. New collagen production can be further increased by the use of boosters such as PRP or hyaluronic acid. You can expect your Microneedling treatment to take about one hour. Your skin will be red for less than an hour for darker skin tones and several days for lighter, more sensitive skin.

Microneedling – Is it true that Microneedling Boosts Product Absorption by 3000%?2019-02-01T19:39:47+00:00

Yes, this is absolutely true. Microneedling does boost product absorption and effectiveness by 3000% during the first hour after your treatment. This is why you will want to pair your Microneedling treatment with a booster like hyaluronic acid or PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma). The channels created by the microneedles create a conduit for any substance you apply to your skin including hyaluronic acid, retinol, your own platelet rich plasma, and other anti-aging products.

Microneedling – What Skin Concerns does Microneedling Treat?2019-02-01T19:39:50+00:00

We have younger Microneedling clients with acne scars and more mature clients with sun damage and wrinkles. Microneedling is known to naturally smooth, tighten and target aging areas of the face and body. It treats and prevents wrinkles, aging skin, surgical and hypertrophic scars, stretch marks, acne and pitted scars, sagging skin, hyperpigmentation, UV damage, Rosacea, and Melasma.

Treating skin conditions such as Melasma and Rosacea with Microneedling can be highly effective. You will see an improvement in the overall condition of your skin, improved skin tone, and reduced discoloration of your skin.

Microneedling – Is At-Home Microneedling With a Dermaroller Safe?2019-02-01T19:39:54+00:00

We have seen the trend move into household use with the dermaroller device. At About Face Med Spa, we use a MicroPenThis type of device punctures your skin at an angle and the needles are only a third the length of a MicroPen. The problem with the dermaroller is the needles nick the skin as it is rolled. This creates less of a controlled injury and it actually can damage the skin. The at-home dermarollers also increase risk of infection.

Microneedling – How Does Skin Injury Make My Skin Look Better?2019-02-01T19:40:02+00:00

Microneedling stimulates healing by causing a controlled injury to the skin. Upon first thought, it defies reason that hurting our skin can actually make it look better. But aesthetic medicine has proven this is actually the case. In fact, the medical aesthetic industry has been built on this premise.

The general rule of thumb is, the more invasive the treatment, the more dramatic the results. Case in point, if you get a facial – you will see a luminous glow for a few days afterward. But if you get a Microneedling treatment, you will keep that luminous glow for four to six weeks.

Microneedling – What Results Can I Get With Microneedling and How Many Treatments Will It Take?2019-02-01T19:40:06+00:00

Microneedling will combat a variety of common skin care concerns, including scarring, stretch marks, melasma, and more. The results are smoother, thicker, tighter, more even-toned skin. The phases of collagen induction include:

  • Inflammation begins immediately during your treatment.
  • An Inflammatory Response will trigger tissue generation. Your very own natural growth factors will cause your body to produce healthy tissue.
  • New tissue Formation will continue for up to 1-year post treatment.

Treatments vary depending on skin conditions but we typically recommend between 3-6 sessions with 4-6 weeks in between sessions and then touch ups once or twice a year after that.

Microneedling – What are the Benefits of Microneedling?2019-02-01T19:40:10+00:00

Microneedling results are naturally beautiful, and it’s also a chemical free treatment in which no foreign substances are injected. Your skin will become thicker. Collagen and elastin will increase up to 1000 percent. Any part of the body may be treated and Microneedling is safe for darker skin tones. The major benefit of Microneedling is the growth factors released trigger regenerative healing.
